English I'm in Love
Language is a really exciting thing
for me. Specifically, I’m really into English. I have loved it since I was
child. I still remember well, when my elder sister came back home from school
20 years ago, I opened all stuff in her bag, included her books. FYI, I was 7
at that time and she was 16. From all stuff I found there, the most exciting
things for me were chemistry and English books. I redrew the chemistry symbols
in my own book as if I understood (but off course actually nope at all, lol).
Then I read the English texts as if I understood, in a “bule” way. Without
realizing it, it was the first time I found English is something I love.
After I was in hi school, for me, the
only subject that I loved was English. But if you force me to give the second
option, well, it might be French. My score for French on my last report was 91,
while my English score was 90. Though, I love English more than French.
Then after I graduated from hi school,
I chose to be in English department (for sure). And now, I am an English
teacher in a private school in Pati, one little city in Central Java.
I have a kid now, his name is Azka and
he is 2. Do you think that I teach him English as his native language? Nope.
For me, an Indonesian kid should have a deep nationalism within themselves
first. At home, I always speak in Bahasa Indonesia (Indonesian) to him, and my
husband does in Javanese (the environment as well). Thanks God, so far it works
so well. Azka can understand and give responses in both languages in a very
good way. He also knows that some words of the two languages have the same
meaning.
Later, I’m sure that I’m about to
teach him English. I hope that he also will be in love with it better than I
do!
