Being 90’s children
can be said as a blessing! Yeah, 90o’s childhood was full of so many
traditional games. We didn’t recognize very well such modern and hi-tech games
at that time. We liked to walk for kilometers with no fear of being kidnapped.
Don’t you guys
remember this kinda game? What do you name this one?

Jumpritan
|
In English it is called “hide and seek”. Well, when I was child, my friends and I called this as “jumpritan” (In Jepara, one of cities in Central Java). Does it sound weird? Lol. Yeah, we called so at that time. Another name might be “delikkan”, derived from word “ndelik” that means “hide”, and suffix –an to show that it is a noun.
This game can be played by 2 children for minimum, but the larger number of the participants, the more exciting this game will be. The rule is, one of the children is on duty as the “victim”. He should close his eyes and counting from 1 up to 10 in a place that is found as the base, while other children go hiding. When he finishes counting, he starts to seek his friends one by one. Whenever he finally finds one of them, he and the founded child should compete running to the base. Whoever reach the base first should say “jumprit!”. If the seeker reaches first, he can go hiding for the next round. However if he failed to either find their friend or run to the base first and say “jumprit!”, he keeps being the seeker for the next round :D.
The crazy experience I ever had when playing this game was when my two friends played a trick on me as a seeker. Both of them dealt to exchange their clothes in order to play trick on me! Can u say what happened then? Yeah, I become the seeker for the next round for I call one of them with another friend’s name. It was said as “kobongan” whenever the seeker was mistaken in calling someone’s name. L
Other games I used to play with my friends are “dakonan,” “bentengan,” “jengglong,” “cublak- cublak suweng”, “jamuran,” “dingklik oglak-aglik,” "bekelan,"“sprinto," (it is like rope skipping, but it used rubbers instead of the real rope), and many many more. These are the pictures of the games I mentioned above (I took the snaps from the internet), in case you don’t ever know or forget them. J
